The National Plant Collection at Newtonairds (held by James Coutts) is Hosta plantaginea cultivars and hybrids, all of which are noted to have fragrant flowers. Hostas are not usually grown for their fragrance, the immensly varied form and colour of the leaves is the normal attraction, however this is a particular bonus in the plantaginea species. Apart from the collection there are a further 200 different cultivars to be found in the garden.
We have an Open Day with the Scottish Garden Scheme for the first time this year, also the garden is open from Sunday 29 May to the end of August on a SUNDAY & MONDAY only, between 11.00am and 5.00 pm. Admission is £3.00.
